The Chicago CLMA Fall Education Meeting was held on Wednesday October 24, 2007 at the Northern Illinois University Outreach Center in Naperville.
The event brought over 75 laboratorians and 30 vendor exhibitors together for a day of education, networking and fun.
Our keynote speaker, Cherie Petersen from ARUP Laboratories, presented “Communication Biohazard”. In this presentation, Cherie shared several examples of toxic communication ("Biohazard Bombs") in a very entertaining and humorous format. With each example, Cherie suggested a more professional response that will foster respect for all of us in the lab. As always, it was a pleasure to learn from Cherie.
The session speakers included Dr. James Hernandez, Dr. Scott Campbell, Dian Anderson and Sandra Sieck. These sessions provided opportunities to learn everything from “Managing Multiple Projects” and "Laboratory Leadership and Management" to “Current and Future Trends in Molecular Diagnostics” and "The Impact of POCT on Improving
Quality of Clinical and Financial Outcomes."
Industry Partners provided additional information about new products and services. Linda Smith, national CLMA spokesperson, presented “Good Practice Sharing” initiatives and the CLMA goal of having 50 submissions by ThinkLab ’08. A 50/50 raffle was conducted for the PAC with Jim Passini winning a tidy sum. Lynn Dusing won the “Member bring a Non-Member” raffle. She received a one-year free membership to CLMA. Many attendees won raffle prizes generously donated by the vendors. Re-live the day in pictures by clicking on the links above.
